Malta and the State of Jersey sign an agreement for the avoidance of double taxation

On 25 January 2010, the Government of Malta and the Government of the States of Jersey, signed an Agreement for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.

The High Commissioner of Malta in the UK, Mr Joseph Zammit Tabona signed on behalf of the Government of Malta and the Chief Minister of the States of Jersey, Senator Terry Le Sueur signed on behalf of the Government of the States of Jersey. The signing ceremony took place at the Malta High Commission, London.

High Commissioner Zammit Tabona said this Agreement is instrumental for trade relations to be strengthened further. He added that the exchange of trade delegations could be organised to enhance trade relations between Malta and the States of Jersey.

Chief Minister Le Sueur expressed his delight to sign such an important bilateral agreement and together with High Commissioner Zammit Tabona pledged their support with the implementation of this Agreement for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Tonio Borg remarked that this being the 16th Double Taxation Agreement signed during the past 22 months is a concrete example of the efforts being undertaken by the Government to attract foreign direct investment and to boost further investment by the Maltese business community.
