A new reduced tax rate of 15% has been introduced for those individuals who earn a minimum annual income of just under £70,000 for activities carried out in Malta. For those whose income exceeds £4.4 million the excess will be exempt from tax. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The reduced rate of tax applies for five consecutive years for EU nationals. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The new Income Tax Scheme was introduced at the beginning of 2011 and will complement the existing company tax incentive schemes already in place.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; An increasing number of both foreign companies and individuals have relocated to Malta in recent years in order to take advantage of the low tax incentives available. The country has also in place double taxation treaties with over 40 countries with more set to be signed in the near future. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Such tax schemes are expected to further increase foreign interest in the Maltese property market which has seen a renewed increase in demand in recent months. The services and commercial activity have been allocated and designed to complement the growing retail area on the terminal’s landside which is open to general public.”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The project aimed to stand out on the corporate leasing market with a host of differentiators besides its 100-metre proximity to the air terminal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Mr Borg said the hi-tech building had been designed to provide convenience and comfort to team members working 12-hour-plus days and travellers on hectic business trips. "Carrying an investment that is estimated to reach almost €200 million, Corporate Village Malta intends to achieve the vision of excellence by becoming the focal point within the booming central business district in Malta.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"The project seeks to respond not only to government's strategic vision, but also to the window of opportunity that arises from the demand for high quality office and commercial space in Malta - which is expected to grow as the country develops further and expands its services sector."&lt;br /&gt;ME said that Corporate Village Malta will be the main hub of activity for the events taking place during the six months of Malta's EU presidency in 2017. It will also serve as the government's single point of contact for business, with the location of the main regulatory and business support agencies and departments.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;While the government is guaranteeing a minimum occupancy of 30 per cent of the office facilities, including storage and archiving, the project development, operation and marketing will be entrusted to the private sector.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Village will cover 130,000 square metres but have a footprint of only 35,000 square metres on the site of the former Dowty factory and adjoining properties.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tenants are expected to include organisations dealing with commerce and trade activities, such as those offering fiduciary services, legal services, brokerage and international trade. A proportion of the site will accommodate retail premises to serve the day to day needs of the employees, as well as dining facilities for conferences and exhibitions; leisure and sports; child care and relaxation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The call for expressions of interest closes on September 3 after which Malta Enterprise will issue a Request for Proposals to the short-listed parties. Set on 13 tumoli of land of which two peripheral tumoli will be occupied by 75 apartments and duplex penthouses.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;Hal Saghtrija's terraced grounds, complete with its own curious rock formations and numerous carob trees, will feature planted allotments, a stone oven for traditional Gozitan baking, a wartime shelter converted to a wine cellar, orchards, a lawned picnic and barbecue area, a horse paddock (complete with horse), traditional giren where residents will be able to keep pets, and a water feature.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;All areas on the hillside will be separated by traditional, hand-built stone walls, and walkways will be illuminated by 70 candle-lit lamps which will be tended to by grounds staff. In the evenings, they can challenge each other to a game of bowls on the purposely built pitch.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;The elevated residences, served by underground garages, all face the panoramic views of the Gozitan countryside framed by extensive seaviews. At the lower level, Chains supermarket will take up 1,800 square metres with what promises to be a high quality, diversified proposition.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;According to Ben Muscat, chief executive officer of Tigné Point developer Midi plc, most of the stores, which average over 200 square metres in size, will be fully operational on opening date. Meanwhile, the newest tenants are committed to come on stream as soon as possible and by Easter all units should be in business.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The interior of The Point has been designed by award-winning GMW Architects of London who have been entrusted with project such as the Midsummer Place Shopping Centre in Milton Keynes, the Hans Christian Andersen multi-arena park in Copenhagen, and Ankara’s Armada Shopping Centre. Design and co-ordination phases were completed overseas and the London team has been collaborating with architectural practice AOM Partnership, the lead consultants to the Midi project who were responsible for all other aspects of The Point including its strikingly impressive arched colonnade.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mr Muscat pointed out that all tenants at the mall are Maltese. Entrepreneurs have endeavoured to invest millions of Euro in shop fits and new jobs, and The Point’s management has been encouraged by the take-up of retail units at comparably high rents. It was evidence, Mr Muscat believed, that Maltese business confidence is heartened despite the economic climate.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Point’s plan and elevation has been designed to maximise visitor flow. The major footfall, Mr Muscat explained, will originate from Tigné Point’s Pjazza Tigné or through the retail centre’s core: The Point will be served by over 1,000 basement car parking spaces including a more than adequate allocation for car parking for persons with disability.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The entire development’s pedestrian areas are extensive. Mr Muscat said that at 2,500 square metres, Piazza Tigné is as large as Valletta’s Pjazza Regina, while the north public piazza occupies a further 1,000 square metres. The signing ceremony took place at the Malta High Commission, London.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;High Commissioner Zammit Tabona said this Agreement is instrumental for trade relations to be strengthened further. He added that the exchange of trade delegations could be organised to enhance trade relations between Malta and the States of Jersey.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Chief Minister Le Sueur expressed his delight to sign such an important bilateral agreement and together with High Commissioner Zammit Tabona pledged their support with the implementation of this Agreement for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Tonio Borg remarked that this being the 16,985.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;During these years, there was a boom in construction, with the number of applications to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority virtually trebling from normal levels, with prices rising by double digits.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This had a pronounced impact on the gross value added in the sector which rose from €555 million in 2003 to €857 million in 2008, according to information given in Parliament by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Since then, the oversupply has resulted in a drop of applications as developers find it harder to of supply pushed property asking prices in England and Wales up an annual 4.1 per cent this month.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On a non-seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, prices rose 0.4 per cent, reversing part of December's 2.2 per cent decline.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"The rise in asking prices is an early indicator that new sellers in 2010 have the confidence to try for a higher price," said Miles Shipside, Rightmove's commercial director.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He said the factors that contributed to the market's recovery last year looked to strengthen in the short term, despite an election less than five months away. These buildings kick off the next stage of development on site. Adjacent to SCM01, the offices and retail spaces are located around the main focal point of SmartCity Malta, the lagoon area.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Prior to this, SmartCity Malta had submitted the planning application for the Power Distribution Center. Set to be built as part of Phase One also, the center will supply sufficient electrical power needed for the SmartCity Malta community.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Phase One will consist of office space, residential units, retail outlets set around the scenic lagoon surrounded with lush landscaping and terraces.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;SCM01 is progressing as planned and will be welcoming its business partners in the third quarter of 2010.
